Character: Monaka Miyama-Uguisu
Fandom: The Miyama-Uguisu Mansion Incident
Player Name: Cyndi
[Monaka should had known better than to look up. She wasn't sure what had happened, but she already felt wary of the situation. Her whole body was drenched in cold water. It soaked right through every layer of clothing she wore, it saturated her hair, and dripped off the tip of her nose. The soft, rhythmic sound of water dripping did not calm Monaka in the slightest. It only made her far too aware that, before she arrived here, she had been in water. She had been too close to the water, perhaps.
Perhaps she had fallen in.
She looked around her, hoping to see something familiar but everything was too new, too shocking. Even the trees seemed odd, maybe it had something to do with the weather? Monaka glanced upward and was instantly rooted to the spot. A man making his way through town tried to speak to her, but Monaka could not hear him. Her eyes were trained on the sight above her head, at the wide expanse of deep blue water, barely held back by some unearthly force.
The sight of it sent a chill down her spine. It reminded her far too much of a time long ago, when she could still see her parents' smile, when she could see them face down and unmoving.
All she could feel was a deep-seated terror as it worked its way through her body, paralyzing her to the spot.]
No... Please, no... [It wasn't directed towards anyone in the area. She held herself tightly, trying hard to push down the fear that had lodged itself into her throat.]
It can't be real... [It was a nightmare after all. The world was closing in all around her, that thin barrier that held back the water was sure to break and then -- and then -- and then --
Monaka held back a sob as she held herself tighter, trying yet failing, to bring herself back together.]

[For Rin, the Villa had always been impressive inside and out. Vatheon itself was nothing compared to the sprawling, spire-like mass of True Cross, but the Villa compared to the rundown church and boy's home he had grown up in or the even more decrepit old dorm he wound up in after was like comparing a ranch house to a mansion.
Of course the real show was inside, where over ten people managed to take up residence and still not crowd one another.]
Guess I never noticed.
[His focus wasn't on the exterior of the place, though. Rather on a certain demon inside.
Still smiling, Rin took Monaka's hand gently and tugged her to the door, unlocking it and pulling her inside before closing it behind them.]
Hey! Night! C'mere!
no subject
He whispers,] Monaka...
[Night doesn't budge from his spot in the kitchen, dumbfounded and even a little shocked at what could possibly be true.
But she couldn't see him like this, she couldn't know who he really was or- or-
Flight or fight kicks in and when he turns to move away, to leave the kitchen through another way, he knocks over his cup of now lukewarm water, sending it crashing to the floor.] Shit-!

She liked the feel of his hand. Had she known about what he did for a living, she would have been able to pinpoint just what made those callouses and what made his grip feel as if he were handling something delicate... as if he were holding back. It was different from her softer ones that had only handled flowers until now.
There was hardly time to consider more as she stopped to admire her surroundings. The inside was far more impressive than the outside, but again she was at a loss for words. She knew she wasn't very presentable to company - but maybe it wouldn't matter since she had just appeared in this odd place? Yes, it wouldn't matter. It wasn't as if she was underdressed.
Monaka hardly had time to take off her shoes when Rin called out for "Night". She felt her heart leap, but she knew it wouldn't be her little kitty. Night would have been an old cat now, maybe fat. Maybe fluffier. But certainly not here.
The only response to Rin's call that Monaka heard was the sudden disturbance in the kitchen. Maybe it was a person named Night who was very clumsy.]
Did something happen?
no subject
That was just who Rin Okumura was - a loyal friend, and a protector. Even if he barely knew this person he couldn't help the instincts that were already in motion.
Which of course led to a confused and worried look towards the kitchen at the noise, because that didn't sound like Night at all. Sure, like any cat he could be a tiny bit clumsy and ungainly at times, but usually not enough to make so much racket.
Glancing back at Monaka, worry still written on his face, he tugged her further inside while calling out in his concern.]
Night? You okay?
[Sorry buddy, you're not going to be escaping fast enough this time.]
no subject
Torn between cleaning up his mess and busting the hell out of there Night is caught in a panic. Hearing Rin's voice get closer he makes for the hallway, hoping maybe he could just leave out the backdoor and come back when his heart didn't feel like exploding.]
no subject
Rin steps in to the kitchen/dining room area seconds after Night makes it to the hallway, earning a strange mix of confusion and mild irritation to be directed at the retreating demon exorcist.]
Uh. Where are you goin'? Didn't you hear me callin' for you?
no subject
[Shit shit shit-]
You were? Sorry, I didn't hear a thing! [Forced laugh.] Must be out of it today!
no subject
... But it couldn't be the very same one she knew. She already made that mistake once today. Her face grew hot with embarrassment. She shouldn't jump to conclusions. She lowered her head, keeping her eyes to the ground.
It couldn't really be that man who saved her. But he looked so much like him. Much more than Rin did.]

[Night, Rin's hearing is better than a normal human's on a good day, so he knows for a fact you could probably hear him yelling from a mile away even if you weren't trying.
He's not buying that, and his face says so.
Letting go of Monaka's hand, he moves to the side a step to reveal the smaller girl that had been standing meekly behind him.]
Some one wants to meet you, Mr. Exorcist.
no subject
She was really here. She was really here and he wasn't prepared for this-]
... Monaka? [He isn't prepared to tell her the truth, how could he be?]
no subject
This man was truly, absolutely, undeniably, that very same man who had saved her -- and he had yet to even begin to thank him for it. Yes, she said the words but they could hardly begin to express just how grateful she was to be saved.
Monaka was free, thanks to him. Free to think, free to live, free to become who she wanted to be rather than to live her life as a puppet. He rescued her from her uncle - and her own traitorous mind.
He knew her by name. ...That meant he remembered her, right? She thought that maybe he might not have... He was an exorcist and he left so quickly that it seemed like another day to him. Even though he had brought back so much to her... She kept her head held high, her hands clasped in front of her.]
It really is you, Mr. Exorcist...!
no subject
He stayed unusually quiet, stepping back but staying close just in case.]
no subject
It's hard to find something to say that doesn't sound completely idiotic in his head.] ... Yeah. It's me. How have you, ah... been?
[More awkward than an upside down turtle.]
no subject
[Her chest rose in excitement as she spoke. She hadn't noticed the exorcist's awkward behavior. He looked just fine to her. She spoke in a soft, breathy tone, punctuated by her nervousness and elation. Monaka was still getting used to speaking to people, but with the exorcist, it just felt natural.]
There are more people around me now. Th-They're small but they all want to learn about... about how to - to arrange flowers. ...Some of them still need work but. ...But there are some that really understand and it -- ... and it -- it's wonderful.
[Oh, how she wished she could show him just how great it really was! But maybe she was talking too much. She paused for a moment, and her smile seemed even brighter than before.] ...And you? How are you, Mr. Exorcist?
no subject
I wish I could be there to see it. Your arrangements have always been beautiful...
[He's caught up in a memory of her, smiling and laughing with others, before he snaps out of it at her own question.
It felt like a slap to the face.] ... I've been well as I can be, I guess. [His answer feels weak, lacking the warmth that Monaka's own words gave him. He just felt unsure.]
no subject
[Now there was a hint of pride showing through her meek exterior. It meat something great if the exorcist had loved her arrangements as well. ...Maybe she could make one just for him. And even if he never purchased it, she knew that he might see it one day and know it was for him.
It was silly, but she knew no other way of contacting him - until today.
But now she noticed something odd about him. His response felt so closed off. Monaka shrunk back a little, more than uncertain about how to approach now.]
-- O-Oh... [She had spoken too much, hadn't she.]
no subject
Rin's happy expression slipped away quickly, eyes flickering between the two of them, a slow, irritated sigh escaping as he shook his head and slipped away from Monaka to stand next to Night.
It took all his restraint to not just up and smack Night's head from behind, but the look he was giving his companion indicated how badly he wanted to.]
So. This is a cute reunion an' all, but don'tcha think it's a little awkward to keep callin' him "Mr. Exorcist"? I mean, you've got a name, right? Bro? You should tell her what it is.
no subject
Tongue-tied and flustered at the standstill in conversation he's almost thankful for Rin's intervention.
Almost.
Night shoots Rin a flabbergasted look, a little more ruffled now. Damn it, Rin.]
Ah- W-Well, yeah I do. [The next words stick to the back of his throat, but at this point running away wasn't an option anymore.]
My name is Night.
no subject
Monaka listened to them, but she wasn't too sure she really understood it. But. She could make an attempt!]
...Your name is Night, too? [cue head tilt
She didn't think there were people named "Night". Maybe she should have given her pet an actual pet name. Like Blackie. Or Mittens.]
no subject
Stared.
Opened his mouth.
... and promptly shut it with a click of his teeth.
No. Nope. He wasn't gonna say anything. If she hadn't figured it out yet, Night would either tell her later when he felt more comfortable with it, or maybe, just maybe, she might clue in to it on her own.
He made a face, sucking on his teeth and letting out a quiet, elongated 'riiiiight...'.]
no subject
Shit.]

. . . that tail hadn't been her imagination, had it. Those horns on his head that appeared that night, how easily he destroyed the demon . . . how familiar he felt . . .
But it just couldn't be! She saw a lot of crazy things during that time but this?]
Night left a long time ago. . . I haven't seen him since -- ... [Since the evening she believed everything was her fault and she cried herself to sleep with Night by her side.]
...He's my important friend. M-My very best friend, he -- [meant the world to her, but she had to let him go. He was still a cat, after all. She never blamed him for leaving.]
no subject
[That much Rin had been told, and it was one of the reasons he admired Night so much. Rather than accept what he was, accept that he would be nothing more than that, he found a reason to fight and clung to it with every fiber of his being. So much so that he had broken every established rule, all to save one person.]
He's still your friend. That never changed. Hell, sometimes he talked about you like you're the only person in the world. That's how much he still cares about you.
no subject
As much as he wished Rin saying that helped, it only made him feel worse.]
I'm sorry, Monaka... [Honestly, sincerely sorry.] I just wanted to see you happy again...

It was true that his presence felt familiar and comforting. And that sad look on his face seemed far too honest. Night the Exorcist had red eyes, like her Night. And Night the Exorcist had known her name back then. She knew that she never introduced herself to him. And she knew her uncle wouldn't have bothered to say anything about who she was.
Night the Kitty would know things that Night the Exorcist might not know, unless they were somehow one in the same. But Rin said something that really made her look as closely as she could at Night.
"He left to find a way to help you."
And both Night the Kitty and Night the Exorcist had helped her. Night the Exorcist even told her once...]
..."Never forget those who love you". [If Night could talk, wouldn't he be saying these things? Or would he tell her stories instead about how hard it was to be a cat. Or maybe he would have other stories. And Night did bring a story to her, a story that was far too familiar and if she hadn't of fallen asleep, she would have known the end.]
Could you ... could you tell me how the story ended?
