[Being soaking wet isn't the worst problem Dirk's ever had. He lives surrounded by an ocean- he's taken a few accidental swims before, thanks to some of his robots. But in all the time he's been exploring the ruins of Houston, he's never seen somewhere like this- new and clean and occupied.
It's something he's only seen in movies or looking down from the window of his tower in Derse, and the real thing doesn't even begin to compare. There's so much more to take in all at once. Even cranking up his music back at home wasn't anything like this. He's registering and cataloging every new sound and sight in his head, and it's all quickly adding up to 'too much.' At least the shades are hiding his eyes.
After a moment of staring, some part of his brain starts working again. Something happened here, and from all of the people around, he can bet that he hasn't suddenly made it into the game. He's still not adjusted to where he is- there are so many people around- but he can't wait to adjust if he wants answers.
So he goes to open the internet on his shades- but the internet on his shades doesn't work. Same with pesterchum. A thorough search reveals that he doesn't have any of his other usual devices on him- but he does have something new. Well. Might as well try that, then.]
Not that I don't love waking up in strange places. But I've got places to be and people to save, so if someone could slap me awake, that would be appreciated.
((ooc: action or SFC interaction are both fine!))

some been here for a couple years without a way out
it might send some home temp or for good
and what kinds of dreams have you been having?
text
What's the deciding factor?
Dreams about a place called Derse. It's full of some pretty shady characters.
Dream probably isn't the right word, since it's just as real as anything else.
text
its completely random
i guess they get a feeling or something because some leaves notes
but really man they never know when they are going home
how shady? so like your dreams are another world? how do you even rest at night then?
this place has all types i guess geez
text
I've got shit to do.
What percentage of the population disappears?
You called me one of the new guys, so I'll bet I'm not the only one. Do new arrivals replace the old ones?
Shady enough to kill a bunch of kids and put it in the news.
It's like flipping a switch. Unless I'm awake in both places at the same time.
Then things start getting complicated.
text
and I think |
[Hold on. He has to think about this. Hmmmm...]
over 20 people show up each month.
there looks to be close to 200 people on the contact list
around this time people arrive all wet
and that is crazy
the killing kids thing. majorly messed up man
what the heck is wrong with that place???
more complicated than here?
text
So do they just keep us around in glass jars for our pretty faces?
Lots of things. It's a pretty long story, but it involves a batterwitch and a game.
Can't say I know how complicated this place really is, but managing two bodies at once isn't exactly a cakewalk.
text
like our energy is or something
oh and weird stuff happens dude
like straight out of sci-fi movie weird
batterwitch? like is she made out of batter?
text
Schoolfeed me on this other sci-fi movie weird stuff.
It's just one of her names. Batterwitch, Baroness, and so on. She's the witch in every single fairy tale you've ever heard combined with space invaders.
text
it's sentient or something equally weird
i think they stick something in you when you're knocked out
they also mark you with a tattoo
oh! yeah something weird happens once or twice a month.
like our dreams were projected all over the city
taken to a place with fish zombies and shadow monsters
heard people have swapped bodies or reverted to children
there was also the species swap. some people turned in to trolls
while others went in to some really weird stuff like giant bugs or dogs
i turned in to a pokemon for that.
that sounds like it would make a great final boss for a video game
will pass on meeting her
but this place might have people like that already
text
You mean some sort of tracker?
You'd think a tattoo would be enough. Do they put a yellow star on your coat, too?
This place must be really dedicated to being that batshit crazy.
I think I'm impressed.
That sounds just smashing. Someone better have some sort of plan for dealing with them.
