[It's not often that David actually speaks with a human, and he's never seen one with blue hair. Still, he smiles at the man and indulges, looking upward.]

The bubble? I'd imagine that's there so that we can breathe!

[To be fair, this is the first time Kamina has talked to something so tiny either.]

It might be glass, but it is just another ceiling. Humans are not meant to live underneath ceilings!

Not just Humans! There's all kinds of aliens and talking animals too. Are you an alien?

Every creature needs a little shelter when they're resting.

[He pauses, tilting his head at the SFC.]

Unless you mean there's no way out of here?

[David doesn't like cages...]

An alien?

[He laughs. It's a pleasant sound, one that makes the listener want to join in.]

No, I'm a wood gnome! You might not have seen one of us before, but we live everywhere. And what are you?

I'm a Hylian! Um, but I'm a replica too, or that's what I've been told.

[He can't be sad about it with that laugh jingling in the air, though!]

Heh, resting. A true man rests when he is in his grave.

And I don't know, but it don't matter. If there ain't a path, we will create a path. If there is a ceiling holding us down, we will break through.

Hylian...

[He hasn't heard of it before, but he looks like an elf.]

Say, would you mind helping me out a little? Are there any animals in this bubble?

[David pauses, then realizes he hasn't introduced himself.]

My name is David. It's very nice to meet you!

...you do realize if you break through that ceiling that you will drown, don't you?

[Human, David is not impressed with your smarts. Why are all humans so aggressive?]

Not if we go quick enough. We race to the top before the water has a chance to drown us.

[shut up, he will bend the rules of nature with sheer awesome and determination.]

What are you going to do if there are creatures that can't swim in this bubble? What about the things that live here naturally? You'll destroy their home just to escape?

Oh, I'm Sola! It's nice to meet you, David.

[Yay manners! He's learned some, finally.]

As for animals, I know there's some talking mice and a really nice big white wolf with red markings, too.

[He hadn't thought of that! To be fair, he doesn't think of a lot of things.]

Fine, we'll take them with us. The great Kamina is generous like that. A change of scenery will do them good!

[He lets out a sharp whistle to get the attention of either of those creatures. A mouse would know where the safe paths are, and a wolf could carry him around so that he could find those paths himself. All animals are willing to help out a gnome in need, so if they're in hearing distance they'll come.]

Hmm. It seems like they're too far away to hear me. I hate to be a bother, but would you mind coming to show me around a little?

A change of scenery?

[DAVID IS APPALLED!]

Now you listen here! Just because this isn't your home and you don't like it doesn't mean you can go destroying it! You try to find a way out that doesn't involve making this place unlivable for everyone else!

[Do you see his scolding face, Kamina? He is so serious right now, you don't even. He will kick you in the shin if he has to.]

[Not his shin! He needs that for standing purposes. And to find furniture in dark rooms.

He bends down to pick David up by the back of his shirt. He's careful though! He doesn't wanna squashy the strange little man. Just talk eye to eye. Like men.]

Now listen here-- wow, you're freaking tiny. Anyway! They'll adjust. The surface is the best place to be.

[The Hylian's face lights up at the prospect of being useful.]

Oh sure! I know my way around really well since I've explored almost everywhere. Where can I find you?

I've never heard of people living under the water before, but humans seem to be able to live anywhere whether they like it or not.

When the technology is available, humans can do a surprising number of things.

[A polite human would have knelt and offered his hand for David to climb on, not pick him up like a kitten. The gnome keeps his dignity though, frowning sternly at Kamina despite their size difference.]

It's not your place to decide that for everyone.

Humans certainly are adaptable! I've heard of merfolk, so I was wondering if this was one of their cities...

[Ponder ponder. He smiles at the girl.]

By the way, my name is David. It's nice to meet you, miss!

Hmm... I seem to be near a large piece of coral. Extremely large. Do you know where that is?

Indeed. I just hope that the technology used to make this place isn't harming the ocean...

Merfolk...? Ah, hi, I'm Yoko. It's good to meet you, too.

So about those merfolk, do you mean some kind of beastmen?

[His face purses a little. Also what is this polite you speak of he has never heard of such nonsense.]

I don't get it. Why would you wanna live here when you can live up there?

Beastmen?

[He doesn't sound fond of the term.]

I'm referring to aquatic creatures with opposable thumbs. In some tales they have a lower half resembling a dolphin, in others they're bipedal with fins on the sides of their faces and gills. They do resemble humans.

Yeah, that sounds about right. [ She shrugs. ] It's a real problem, no matter who is at fault. Humans don't belong down here.

Now, now. Everyone likes different things! Some people enjoy sweets and others don't. Is it so strange to think that some people might enjoy living under the sea even if you don't?

[He smiles, earlier irritation melting away. Questions are good. Questions means he's thinking instead of just doing.]

[It looks like the little gnome is concentrating deeply before he answers.]

I'm not sure anyone is really at fault here. Arriving felt more like wandering into an errant faerie's spell than anything else. We shouldn't be too quick to blame the inhabitants of this place.

Sweets or salts, this ain't about something as meaningless as that. Why live anywhere where a man can't be free? I don't get it at all.

[Cause as long as there is anything between him and the deep blue sky, he ain't free.]

Hmm. Who said that we can't be free here? We haven't even explored the city yet, maybe there's a transportation system that can take us back to the surface. Why don't you let me up on your shoulder and I'll help you look.

[Thinking, let David show you how to do it.]

[Yeah sure, let him just pop you on his shoulder, weird little man.]

Humans ain't supposed to live under frigging ceilings. Stuck. Just waiting until they collapse on top of ya. That ain't no way to live at all.

A spell? Like magic?

[ She can believe she's talking to a very, very tiny man... but faeries is pushing it. ]

Somehow, I really don't think that's the problem here. Assuming that much is a stretch.

[He pats Kamina on the neck soothingly as he rambles on about collapsing ceilings. David thinks that living in a den of sorts is perfectly natural, but many of his bird friends disagree. He's not going to judge. Being so far underwater IS probably uncomfortable for a human, after all.]

Let's head that way. I think I smell some fresher air.

[Yup, he's pointing towards the forest.]

[He laughs, a real belly laugh that most people would want to laugh right along with. It's not any sort of mocking sound, he just seems genuinely amused.]

Magic is real, Yoko. Most humans just forgot about it a long time ago!

[Just treat Kamina as a really loud dumb bird and everything will be fine.]

Huh, you can smell something like that?

[but he starts moving there anyway.]

What are you anywhere? Ain't ever seen nothing as tiny as you before.

My name is David, and I'm a gnome! Most people don't ever see us, but we're all around you. We care for the animals of the world and keep an eye on the environment.

[More questions, yes. David likes questions.]

H-hey...

[ But even though she looks embarrassed, she doesn't seem offended. ]

It's just kind of weird to think about. It's probably some sort of crazy technology, that's all.

Kamina. You better remember that 'cause you gonna hear a whole lot of it.

[His face turns more thoughtful then though, considering what David had said.]

[He doesn't try to force her to believe in magic or even show her any of his own. In learning science, humans have forgotten a lot of the old way of things - trying to show her his magic would probably result in her calling it smoke and lights.]

It is a little strange that we all showed up here. Are you good with technology? Maybe we can work out what's happening if we can figure out more about these.

[David holds up his SFC.]

I figured out how to make a moving picture, but it seemed like there might be an information base on it too.

[Underground? He's never heard of a gnome that lives exclusively underground, but...]

I would imagine so! Most gnomes live in a den. It's safer inside at night. Though we do go outside during the day, it's nice to have a warm place to go home to.

Heh. A real man don't need a house to got a home. All he needs is his comrades with him.

I'm not half-bad at stuff like that, we'll see what I can work out. It doesn't look that complicated.

[ She fidgets with her SFC. ]

And even if we don't get the answers we want, it's not like we're alone in here. We'll get to the bottom of this, David. I'm not about to let them go around trapping innocent people.

That I do not know. Perhaps there is someone around you can ask?
