[There comes a time in every person’s life where they have to sit down and wonder what the fuck just happened. Bro has reached that moment. He would sit down, where it not for the fact that he just awoke lying on his back. No choice but to sit up, then. Not the same dramatic effect, but it’ll do. So he sits right in the middle of the Plaza, crossing his legs in a sort of lotus position.

Everything's a bit of a muddled mess. The kind of haze matched by a hangover, minus the throbbing headache and queasiness. There is a questionable taste in Bro’s mouth, but he’ll attribute that one to thirst. He hasn’t had a decent drink since he entered the Medium. He’d been doing pretty damn well for himself in there. He’d been up against the final goddamn boss, that douche known as Jack Noir. Lil Cal had been there, Dave had been there (sort of) and they were beating the shit out of that motherfucker, Strider style. Things were as sweet as could be. Except for that moment where Jack had gotten one more power-up and somewhere in the fray, Bro had lost his grip on his sword. That one’d cost him dearly.

Fade to fucking black, and suddenly he awoke here. No Lil Cal, no Davesprite, nothing.

His hand strays to his chest, as he distinctly remembers getting impaled, but there’s nothing there. Just his usual badass abs. In one fluid sweep, he removes his baseball cap so he can run a hand through his moist hair. Did he have an extra life? No, that’s not how the ‘game’ works, he’s pretty sure.

He lost. He went up against the big bad and he lost. His mouth opens to utter a single word.]

Fuck.

[It'll be hard to tell with the shades, but Bro's eyes narrow when his gaze falls on Dirk. It's like looking in a mirror. A mirror that reflects the past. A little late for his life to be flashing before his eyes, so what he's looking at is definitely the real deal.

Oh, the references he could make right now. The witty quips or memorable one-liners. Still, there's a time for jest and a time for serious questioning. This would be the questioning part.]

Vatheon, huh? Somethin' tells me that's neither Kansas nor Oz. [... Okay, maybe a little bit of referencing.]

[He'll probable delve into quips of his own, soon enough. For the very basics, though, he figures it's best to get in all the facts before the jokes.]

[And while there's several explanations that come to mind, he doesn't like to make assumptions. Especially not when SBURB is involved. Tricky business, that.]

It's not my universe, either. Dragged us both here out of our own.

[He considers something for a moment, then nods.]

You're Dave's Bro, aren't you.

Guilty as charged. [He takes off his cap again, using it to give a sort of 'tip of the hat'. All ironic, of course.]

Yeah. He's here. Davesprite, too.

[Can't leave out the Bird Bro. He figures Davesprite might even be more happy to see Bro than Dave will, considering that recent dream of his.]

They leave the Medium by beating the game, or...?

[The only logical alternative coming to Bro's mind right now is that they left the Medium the same way he did. That is, by dying. It's not an alternative he likes to think about, but it's there all the same.]

No. They got taken in the middle of it, same as me.

[Well, that's a casual way to tell about his own session...]

Same as you, huh? [That certainly narrows down the possibilities of who this other self is.]

So you're an actual main player in your session?

One of four. Things got flipped, in our universe. Dave's my Bro, instead of me being his.

That's a result of... what, an existing game mechanism? Or just plain Twilight Zone?

Game mechanism. They scratched our session. Suddenly, poof, a whole new universe with flipped guardians and an alien in charge of a baking company.

[Ahh, there it is. The Scratch. The universe reboot. Interesting side-effect, but it's nice to know another version of himself gets the chance to be more than just the caretaker of one of the four heroes.

Wait a sec, baking company?]

... Betty Crocker?

Exactly. Queen alien bitch got herself the nickname of Batterwitch because of it.

That sounds like one hell of a messed up universe, right there. How's Dave treatin' you as a bro?

[Dirk shrugs.]

He did his best. Couldn't be helped that the universe was there to screw him over in that respect.

Universes have a tendency to do that, yeah. Looks like you turned out okay, though.

[He holds up a fist for bumping purposes, which is like a universal sign of validation when it comes to Striders. It's not a full stamp of approval just yet, but this other self shows signs of greatness.]

[Hell yes, fist bumps. He's not about to believe that he's better than this guy- he's confident in his own abilities, sure, but this is him with plenty more years, and a shitton more experience. Maybe he'll even get the chance to learn that.]

[Bro definitely hopes to make his own assessment of Dirk's skills firsthand. Strifing needs to be a thing soon. He might be able to give his other self a few pointers, and fighting 'himself' will be a hilariously freudian situation.]

[He's in the middle of an argument with one of them, but they're still friends. Maybe.]

[If she's as similar to the Roxy he knows as this Dirk is to him, the game could very well become a trainwreck. Mom Lalonde knows her stuff, but... Man, is she a loose cannon.]

She was pretty reluctant about it at first, but yes, even Lalonde. I wouldn't play without her, honestly.

[Believing in your companions is a pretty important trait for the four heroes, he supposes, but that's not entirely for Bro. Maybe if he'd stuck with the other guardians inside the Medium, Jack wouldn't have gotten the jump on him, but here he is. When it comes to things like this, his other self's got the upper hand.]

Yeah? That's the spirit. Make sure you guys end this thing, aight? Wouldn't want a universe reset for nothing.
