Ahhh, shit... [Night stands in front of a vendor selling hot dogs with his sword slung over one shoulder and his soaked black coat over his other. As he's taking the (apparently free) hot dog he's reading up on a pamphlet he picked up inside the welcome center he just happened to stumble into not too long ago.]

This is just my luck, isn't it? Great... [Eyes still focused on the pamphlet and hot dog now acquired, he turns away from the vendor to walk off hopefully to a bench where he can reevaluate his life and where it's taken him so far.

The chance of him accidentally running in to someone between now and then is very high.]

[And for Rin, it's just another day in Vatheon, with another set of newcomers that he usually leaves for Zelda to tend to. Any more he really only stops if he recognizes them, on his usual trek from home to work. But today there's something else that stops him.

It's not that he recognizes one of the newcomers as a friend of his this time - it's that the person sitting there with a hotdog and pamphlet looks exactly like him. Sword and all.

So he just... stops. And stares. Because seriously, coral? Doppelgangers now?]

[He is close to taking a bite of his hot dog when he stops-- and sniffs the air. His sight then lands on Rin, out of everyone else that is walking around them.

He sniffs a few more times before quirking an eyebrow.] It's rude to stare, you know.

[Well at least this look alike didn't sound like him, too. But still. What the hell was going on?

Rin blinked once, before his expression turned in to a scowl.]

Tch! Rude to look like some one else, yehknow.

[He looks a little stunned suddenly at that statement before he starts to laugh.

Leaning back against the bench his face breaks out into a large grin.] You're not very bright, are you? I can help the way I look just as much as you can. Next time try and consider your words before you flap your mouth off, yeah?

[Well, Rin knows better than to argue with that - he really isn't all that bright. He continues to scowl, but it softens a bit. He is a newbie. Rin could stand to be a little nicer, face twin or not...]

Yeah yeah whatever. So who the hell are ya anyway?

[He takes a bite out of his hot dog before he answers.] You can call me Night.

[His stare never leaves Rin. Don't think that tail escaped his notice either.] And you are?

Night?

['Weird name...']

Okumura Rin.

[The tail that doesn't seem to be escaping Night's attention twitches, and Rin nods to the pamphlet.]

You got it figured out?

That's right. [Chew chew swallow.] Nice to meet you, Okumura.

Enough to get by, I suppose. [He leans forward again, elbows resting on his knees.]

Now that I've answered some of your questions you can answer one of mine. [He then points to Rin's tail with his free hand.]

What halfwit told you it was a good idea to keep your tail out like that?

[Another twitch. Most people just questioned the tail, but it seemed that exorcist-looking jacket isn't just looking the part after all.]

Everyone can see it here. ... and it's more comfortable like this, okay?! Don't get all high and mighty just cause you're certified!

[You bet your bottom dollar it isn't.]

Far from it, actually. Even if people can see it here that doesn't mean someone who's wise enough won't try and rip it off completely. That'd be a shame. [A halfhearted shrug.] But you're young. Maybe I'm expecting too much?

[A sigh escaped, Rin running a hand through his hair.]

Sixteen ain't much compared to other demons, yeah. So why aren't you freakin' out and threatin' me with holy water or whatever?

[Since he was in his basic work uniform - a white button down and black slacks - there was nothing really indicating his own True Cross affiliation right then. He was curious about Night, and wondering why the name Okumura didn't seem familiar to some one who was an exorcist. Hadn't everyone certified been warned about him?]

No, but you are still mostly human, right? Sixteen is a pretty good age to start figuring things out, if not a bit late.

[Another shrug.] Should I be freaking out? If you want I can throw some holy water on you if that would make you feel better. [A snicker.]

Mostly.

[Half is still 'mostly', right?]

Fuck no, that'd hurt! And... I'unno... guess that depends...

[ Life re-evaluation? NOPE. NOT AS LONG AS KOHAKU IS AROUND. And as Kohaku sees someone who looks vaguely like her little brother figure, she's going to assume that he is that little brother figure and go bug him. Because obviously that is what every good big sister should do.

So, she shows up in back of his bench, then places her hands on his head, rests her head on her hands, and then looks down at what he's eating. ]

Hot dogs, Rin? I know you can do better than that ~

[ GIVE HER A FEW TO REALIZE YOU'RE NOT HER BROTHER. ]

[He stops in mid-bite, completely flabbergasted for a good long second before he regains his speech. It is only because he knows she doesn't mean any harm that he doesn't retaliate in a less than pleasant way.

Still. What the fuck.] Uhhh... Excuse me?

[Rin scowled a bit at the joke, looking away as he rubbed his foot against the back of his leg, shifting his weight as he did so.

When he answered, his response was little more than a mutter.]

How you feel 'bout Satan...

[ WAIT.

Uh.

That.

Wasn't Rin's voice.

WHOOPS.

Kohaku immediately scrambles a bit away, bowing a bit in apology. ]

Whoa! Sorry! You just kinda look a lot like my little brother from the back! I-I didn't mean any harm or anything, serious!

[He's silent for a moment, expression curious before he breaks out into grin again. Setting his hot dog on the bench beside him he moves to stand up.]

Ahhh, I knew there was something strange about you! You certainly don't smell like the others do... [He ignores how that could be construed as an insult.

Standing before him now Night looks down at him, rubbing his chin with a hand.] I would have thought something that came from the big man himself would look a little less scrawny, half-demon or not.

[Smell? But he took a sho-

Oh, wait. That kind of smell. Which meant... Night was part demon, too? Possibly even more than Rin himself, though damned if his dumb brain could figure out how that was possible.

The comments get a pretty decent glare from the teen, though, as he looks right back up at Night with the same scowl as before.]

I ain't that scrawny. Yer just a damn giant is what you are...

[At least she pulled away.

He just blinks at her, eyebrow raised. Then he smirks a little.] I believe you. No harm done.

[The smirk evolves into a smile.] So who's this brother I look like from behind?

[Far more than just part, kiddo.

He just continues to smirk down at him.]

No, you're just a kid still. I'm sure you'll hit a few more growth spurts though.

... ugh! What the hell d'you know anyway?! You're just some... some weird look alike!

[Huff huff tsun tsun]

[ She relaxes, than takes a seat beside him on the bench. ]

Ah ... well, his name is Rin Okumura. He and I aren't biologically related, but he's become kind of like a little brother to me in this place.

[ she looks to the new guy and grins sheepishly. ]

I guess I kinda miss my brother back home. Rin reminds me a bit of him.

[ and wow, new guy, you look like Rin from the front, too. ]

I like to think I know a fair amount of things, but I get the feeling you weren't being general. [A soft chuckle.]

So, the son of Satan, huh? You're awfully trusting for someone with a big target mark on your back. How do you know I'm not going to use this information against you later?

[That might have been a mutter of 'ass...' under his breath, but he keeps it quiet enough that even Night's hearing might have had trouble picking it up.]

What can you do here, huh? Can't kill me - they'd punish both of us for it, and I'd be back in five days. Tell anyone, they're not gonna give a shit - they already know. Yeah, dangerous shit happens 'round here but you're barkin' up the wrong tree if you think you've got any sorta ammo on me in a place like this.

[His smile is still there by the end of it.] And back home? Are you a little more discreet there when there are fewer tolerant people?

[He may sound a little concerned, but that's up for interpretation. The kid's pretty okay and who is he to judge him solely because of his heritage?]

[The note of concern actually catches Rin off guard, and his expression softens before he looks away, letting out a wary sigh.]

Yeah. Don't got a choice in that...

[Running into someone was about the opposite of Maka wanted to do when walking down the street, especially not when she needed to clear her head and maybe go get some scarves for the weather.

She skitters back when she runs into him, stuttering out "sorrys" as she goes, then stops and looks up at the man.

There's a ping of recognition, of surprise, before she shakes her head and half bows. Purely out of habit of being respectful to older figures.]

Sorry, sir, you looked like someone I knew for a moment.

[But he's certainly not Rin. Too old, too tall, red eyes for goodness sake.

And she's never known Rin to eat hot dogs, but that's entirely random and irrelevant.]
