[One day. He had been here for only ONE DAY, and things were already as crazy as he remembered. Forget the familiar faces and weird time lapse from both ends of the spectrum - no. No, this was worse.

When the video kicks in, there's a very frustrated-looking blonde on the feed. The communicator itself looks like it's at an odd angle in relation to its owner - sitting on top of a desk while Guy himself is on his knees, rummaging through drawers and boxes with a flustered frenzy.]

Alright guys, I appreciate that some of my things are still around. That's great, really kind of you. I'm honored.

[He lets out a rough sigh, sitting back on his haunches and running a hand through his hair.]

But let's get something straight, alright? If you're going to borrow my stuff while I'm gone? Particularly my fontech?

At least remember to take all of the parts!

[You see this? This small little metal ring in his hand that he is now holding up to the camera?

This just happens to be important. This is a piece barely big enough to show well on the feed, but is being held between his fingertips with all the care of a piece of china. This little lifesaver is not with its machine, which means someone out there is ruining his precious fontech with their negligence.

They're also probably getting some really funky coral energy readings without this. God have mercy on them for that. But who cares about the coral readings when someone out there is murdering his technology.]

Just... word of advice: take care of your friends' belongings if they're out of it for a while. Coma. Disappearance. Doesn't matter. At least honor that they cared for their things for a reason.

...took me forever to find this part in the first place, too.

Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions about your time gone, or would you prefer waiting until you've settled down a little.

[Not answering questions isn't really an option, he's afraid.]

Guy! You're back!

[Sorry, his delight at this turn of events takes precedence over whatever that little ring is. He won't completely ignore it, though.]

Is something that small really all that important?

Hmm? No, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Ask away.

[Yes, he's gone back to rummaging. But his tone is honest enough - he's listening.]

How much time had passed when you returned?

Did you remember being here while you were there?

Couldn't stay away from this place, I guess! Nice to see you, Lloyd.

[He turns the piece over in his fingers, brow furrowing as he speaks.]

It really is. In a proper machine, every piece is important, just like how every working part of a body is important for a healthy person. Take one part away, and your machine may still "work", but it could be tearing itself up inside in the process.

[He sounds just a little heartbroken at the idea. Sigh.]

[He's silent for a moment as he thinks through it. The last time he was here was... Akzeriuth, right? So--]

About a month, give or take a few days. Not a horribly long amount of time, I suppose.

...And no, I didn't remember anything until I landed back in the plaza.

So you proceeded as if nothing at all had changed while you were here?

Looking back at it now...were there any hints?

Guy, welcome back!

[And then she looks at that small thing]

What is that metal ring for?

Mmm. If there were any changes or hints, I was pretty oblivious to them. For all I knew the last month, I hadn't left my world at all.

[It's hardly the princess's fault that she doesn't know much about technology, her world doesn't have any at all. She'd been afraid to simply leave the machine when she went to get the letter and the seeds from Luke (when people leave, their things vanish if no one claims them), so she'd taken it. In her haste, she must have left a small part behind.

She doesn't bother with any explanation initially when she sees Guy on the video, she just lights up.]

Guy, you're back! And you remember! I...

[I thought you might forget us. The words remain unspoken, since there's no point in them now. He's here, and he hasn't forgotten anything. She feels tears of relief starting to well up in her eyes, so she covers the camera for a moment to compose herself. She's still smiling when she appears on the feed again.]

I do apologize. Items vanish after a few days when people leave the bubble if they are not claimed. I must have left a part behind.

[Zelos is going to be so happy. Though she hasn't said anything to him, she saw clearly how much it hurt for him to lose a friend.]

It's actually a part for a detector I built a while ago, back when the coral first started acting up. Basically, all is does is measure certain vibrations of a surrounding area - ones given off by certain types of energy - and records them. This little guy's one of the secondary stabilizers for the intake flow of radiation.

Or, well... it used to be.

[What happened to the good old days of people knowing how to care for machines??]

[Well. The familiar faces keep getting better and better.

Guy keeps silent as the camera goes black for a few moments, but he can feel that smile creeping up at the corners. It's soft, but still broad. A little relieved, even. Glad, in a sense, that some friends were still here.

That she was alright.]

It's good to see you too, Zelda.

[He listens to her apology with little more than an awkward chuckle, messing absentmindedly with the part in his fingers.]

I'm aware. I'm pretty glad someone bothered to grab it in the first place.

Just bring it over when you have the chance, alright? Even if it's been working properly, I wouldn't be surprised if there's already corrosion or power shorts waiting to happen. At the very least, I need to tune it up.

[A pause. That smile fades at the edges, even as Guy moves to plop that wayward piece back onto the desk.]

How long have I been gone?

You can always make another one!

It wasn't too hard to make right? I can always help you make another one!

Jumping right to action, huh? [Was it hard to make? Well. Depended on who you asked.] Staying optimistic is a step in the right direction, though! And it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a backup.

I'd like to find out if the original machine is still around the city, though. If the spare parts are here, I assume someone out there got their hands on it.

And looking back at it now, you're sure that it was your world you returned to?

As sure as I could be, I guess. I'd imagine I would have felt a little more out of place if it hadn't been.

[Going down a scary road there, Ky.]

Guy, you're back! Welcome back!

[Zelda gets up from her work (logging the coral, actually. If she's missing a part, that explains the readings over 100% she's been getting!), brushing her hair back quickly with one hand as she heads for the door. If he's particularly perceptive, Guy might see a window planter with tiny shoots just starting to peek out.]

I'll head over now. I've been getting strange readings already.

[She pauses a bit at his question. She could answer him to the day exactly how long he'd been gone. She could do the same for Shizuo. Zelos isn't the only one who doesn't deal with loss well.]

A little over two weeks. Zelos has been caring for Luke, as well as your other friends from Auldrant.

[Might as well put his Luke worries at ease, too. She'll never forget just how lost he was for that week when Luke was missing.]

But if you didn't remember being gone at all they can clearly already toy with your memories.

[He has to know.]

Nice to see you again, too! I bet Luke'll be pretty happy to see you, too.

[His grin turns into something that's more than a little confused.]

O...kay... I'm not sure I get what you just said, but... I think I got it. Doesn't it depend which part it is, though? I mean, what if it was something like a toenail? You wouldn't miss that if someone clipped it off.

Hm...I could ask a couple of people if they have spare parts?

It shouldn't be too difficult to find them!

Maybe.

In a sense, I'm just glad I remember the city in the first place. You think it would be more beneficial to our captors to keep any wiped memories just as they are.

[Although the opposite could easily be true as well. But it's not as if the motives of the scientists were easy to guess at.]

I wouldn't know. But I don't really trust anything that they would do.

How do you feel, being back?

[They're still as tight-lipped as ever, then. Great.]

I'd be lying if I said I was okay with it.

But I'd rather focus on getting my work and attention back where it's needed most. Adapt and move on.

I'm not really one for sulking over the uncontrollable, anyways.

Heh. Probably.

[So Luke was still in the bubble, then. Either he was avoiding his communicator or he had been thrown into a coma - Guy hadn't been able to contact him.

He wasn't sure whether he was grateful for that or not just yet.]

Hahah... well, yeah, some parts are more important than the rest, of course. A toenail isn't as important as, say, your heart. But even taking off something that small is giving you less protection - infection can happen pretty fast if you lose a nail! Leaving little things out of a machine can do the same thing - parts that are made for stability or structure, when forgotten, can leave the mechanism exposed to possible damages and malfunctions, even if you wouldn't think a part that small could have any significance.
